On Jan. 4, commissioned by Minister of Agriculture Han Changfu, Ye Zhenqin, a division chief with the Ministry of Agriculture, handed the medal, certification and merit booklet for "Agriculture Scientists with Outstanding Contributions to Grain Production" to Academician Yuan Longping, director of the China National Hybrid Rice R&D Center. The letter of congratulation from Mr. Han to Yuan was read out.
Gladly Academician Yuan said that the award would encourage and push him to step forward. As the third period's goal of super hybrid rice has been achieved, Prof. Yuan attempts to lead his team in realizing the yield of 1,000 kg per mu in large tracts of land nationwide by the age of 90.
On Dec 26, 2011, in the Grain Production Commendation Conference held in the name of the State Council for the first time, 300 experts, including Yuan Longping, were honored as "Agriculture Scientists with Outstanding Contributions to Grain Production", who enjoyed equal treatment as national model workers.
