On April 11, 2014, various folk activities were held in southwest China's Yunnan Province to celebrate the Water-splashing Festival.
The Water-splashing Festival, which falls in mid-April, is the New Year of the Dai ethnic group. During the festival the Dai people wore colorful costumes, carried clean water first to wash the Buddha and then splash each other with water. According to the tradition it is a way of washing away the old year and ushering in the new.
