With China’s twelfth Cultural and Natural Heritage Day approaching, the world’s largest exhibition of Tibetan Thangka art opened in Beijing on Monday.
Tibetan artifact Thangkas are painted on cotton or silk, usually depicting Buddhist stories of figures or describing historical events regarding important Lamas.
The exhibition includes a giant work by Xia Wujiao, who spent seven years painting Five Dhyani Buddhas, measuring the five meters long and valued at over 15 million yuan (2.2 million U.S. dollars). The 218 works of art exhibited include Thangka paintings, Buddhist sculptures and embroideries.
Next, this touring exhibition will travel to Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
