Last month Zhouzhuang Water Town launched a pinwheel festival that features thousands of handmade pinwheels, a popular toy among children in Yangtze Delta Region towns. It will last until mid July.
Zhouzhuang is in Kunshan City of Jiangsu Province just north of Shanghai. It is renowned for its typical Southern Chinese riverside scenery, elegantly-crafted bridges, murmuring streams and classical dwellings, as well as its distinctive local traditions.
A newly opened museum exhibits the history and development of pinwheels in water towns. All the exhibits were made with paper. Visitors can also watch Kunqu Opera, which originated in the town, and taste local delicacies like sticky rice cakes, braised pork feet with soy sauce and lotus root.
