Mulan Paddock is located in Weichang Manchu and Mongolian Autonomous County of Chengde City, Hebei Province, China. Mulan Paddock is regarded as Beijing's backyard garden. It used to be a royal hunting place and a summer retreat in the Qing Dynasty(1644-1912). As a popular destination, Mulan Hunting Paddock is a rare natural grassland resort covering an area of 2,324 square kilometers. The tranquil surroundings and attractive landscape, as well as strolling flocks of birds, endow it as a popular tourist destination, and also a paradise for photographers.
Mulan Paddock (Mulan Weichang) is one of the few natural grassland resorts in Hebei Province, and so is a popular destination for those after a bit of fresh air and countryside. For those Beijingers who do not have the time to set off for the more ruggedly realistic grasslands of Inner Mongolia, or even the Republic of Mongolia, this is a nice diversion. In summer, the resort is ideal for outdoor activities, including sleeping in Mongolian Yurts, Riding on Horseback, Walking and Climbing. Botanists can also, quite literally, have a field day here. In the cold northern winters, the area is open for hunting and skiing.
It consists of mainly 3 sections: Saihanba National Forest Park, Yudaokou Grassland and Forest Scenic Zone, and Hongsongwa National Nature Reserve. Mulan Hunting Paddock enjoys really gorgeous scenery. With vast forest and a wide expanse of grassland, it owns herds of cows and flocks of sheep haunting and grazing.
Being 240 km away from Chengde and 460 kilometers away from Beijing, Saihanba National Forest Park is located in the northern of Weichang County in Chengde. It is near to Hexigten Banner of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north. It is part of Mulan Paddock – the Qing Dynasty’s royal hunting place. This park has a total area of 1.41 million mu, of which 1.1 million mu is forestry area and 0.2 million mu grassland areas. The forest coverage rate is up to 78%. Altitude of this area is between 1100 m and 1940 m. it is the largest national forest park in northern China. There are a variety of species of plants and animals.
Yudaokou Grassland and Forest Scenic Zone is located 110 km northwest of Weichang County of Chengde City. It is only 260 km away from Chengde downtown. The total area of it is about 1,000 square kilometers. The altitude of this area is between 1230 and 1280 meters. There are many types of raw grassland resources, natural secondary forest, wetlands, lakes, springs and rivers within the area.
Hongsongwa National Nature Reserve is located northwest of Weichang County, Chengde. It is near to Hexigten Banner of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north. Here is rich in wind resource, so you can see wind farms. The maximum temperature in this are generally does not exceed 25°C, it is quite cook in summer. Hongsongwa National Nature Reserve cover a total area of 1.1 mu, of which 0.2mu area is grassland. The forest coverage rate up to 78%. This nature reserves aims to protect sub-alpine meadow.
As one of the most famous tourist attractions in north China, Mulan Paddock is an ideal summer retreat with beautiful scenery and refreshing air.
