The Base Camp is a small flat piece of land in front of the north face of Mount Everest. It is at an altitude of 5200m and many people might experience difficulties with the high altitude. Located at the border between China and Nepal, Mt. Qomolangma (also known as the Mt. Everest) with its north slope belongs to China and the south one to Nepal. 【Rongbuk Monstery】
Rongbuk Monastery, located in Droma Mountain top of Rongbuk ditch east and west side, on the south of Mount Everest, Basong township Tingri county Shigatse area in Tibet, is 90 km from county resident, elevation 5154 meters, which is the world’s highest temple, so it has the excellent and wonderful scenery.
Rongbuk Monastery belongs to Tibet Nyingma temple, is a mixed temple of monks and nuns with rich local characteristics. Rongbuk Monastery was built in 1899, built by Mongolian Lamaism lama Ngawang Tenzin Robu, located at the northern foot of Mt. Everest Rongbuk glacier terminal, elevation 5154 meters, about 20 km from Mt. Everest summit. Monastery divided into old and new two sites, the old temple is located in the 3 km south of the new temple, near Mount Everest, and there still exist practice hole that padmasambhava master cultivated himself according to religious doctrine, as well as with the lotus green footprints of stone and stone tower, etc. New temple was built in 1902, Rongbuk Monastery had large scale that had a dozen temples, some in Nepal, later because of historical reasons have been destroyed. Memorial at an altitude of 5200 meters is located in the 4 km south of Mt. Everest base camp, need to take eco-friendly car or on foot. Before reaching the memorial, there are armed polices guarded to give some warnings to the tourists.
“Everest leveling monument” designed by Tashi Dorji of the Tibet autonomous region bureau of surveying and mapping. The monument is 2.4 meters high, 1.2 meters wide, 0.2 meters thick, stele base is 0.95 meters tall, and its body is total 3.35 meters high. Created by the whole piece of granite, the overall shape of monument looks like Everest shape, carved with characters of “Everest leveling monument” in Han, Tibetan, and English three languages.
Transport Information
Mt. Everest is located in the middle of the Himalayas, on the border between China and Nepal, the south of Tingri county, Shigatse region of Tibet. To hitchhike from Shigatse and Lhatse to New Tingri is not difficult, but the rest trip of 100 kilometers to the base camp, it is hard to get a chance to hitchhike, so suggest chartering a car from Lhasa or Shigatse.
Before leaving new Tingri, go through the formalities in a hotel in new Tingri crossing road. The vehicle entered into the range of Mt. Everest need to submit highway construction fee according to the number of wheels, each wheel costs 100 yuan. Walk along China-Nepal highway for 11 kilometers and you will see Everest reserve sign on the left, from now on there is no asphalted road.
