Kunming Changshui International Airport in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, is to be in operation on Thursday, June 28 2012.
Changshui airport will act as an aviation hub for Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe, according to the airport's construction headquarters.
The new airport will replace the currentKunming Wujiaba International Airport which has been on service for 90 years. All operations will eventually be transferred to the new airport, and the old airport will be demolished.
Located 24.5 km away from downtown Kunming, Changshui International Airport will have an initial annual throughput of 38 million passengers and 950,000 tonnes of cargo. It will be able to handle 303,000 flights per year.
