Hunan University Holds International Competition

Hunan University Holds International Competition of Upcycling Industrial Wastes Based on Low-carbon Design

Jointly hosted by the Cultural and Educational Consul of the British Consulate-General, Guangzhou Low-carbon Industry Association, School of Design of Hunan University and Guangzhou Valuda Group Co., Ltd., the Competition named “Upcycling Industrial Wastes Based on Low-carbon Design”, as part of 2013 International Universities Cooperation Project, was held at the School of Design of Hunan University on May 10th.

Themed “Upcycling and Creative Design”, university students from all over the world strived to utilize their creative designing abilities to upcycle industrial wastes such as useless tires, packing belts and caps of plastic bottle and toothpastes. The main aim of this contest was to vigorously promote communication and exchange in low-carbon concept and ecological design applications.

Alessandra from City University London, while expressing her views said that such meaningful activities play a positive role in promoting better communication on  industrial design among China and other countries.

The 15-day Low-carbon Design Competition attracts industrial design teachers and students from 8 universities in China, 6 universities in Britain and one university in South Korea.

Participants are studying waste marbles, the raw material provided for their design in the competition.
