Zhou Qiang, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, declared the opening of the Hunan Science and Technology Museum on the morning of June 25, 2011.
Located at the junction of Furong Road and Shanmuchong Road, the museum has an overall floorage of 28,113 square meters. It consists of nine theme halls, including information hall, space exploration hall, and scientific garden for children. There are 351 permanent exhibits for scientific popularization, integrating basic sciences such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry and inter-disciplinary knowledge like life science, environmental science, and space technology. Various interactive facilities including model manipulation, multi-media, and popular science theatres are used to edify visitors via popular science and modern technologies and improve their scientific literacy in amusement.
Secretary Zhou said that the museum makes full use of modern hi-tech means and perfectly combines Hunan characteristics to bear knowledge, interests, and interactivity. He also remarked that as a base to foster teenagers’ innovative thinking, the museum plays a key role in guiding them to love and study science.
