Hunan Provincial Museum will be closed from June18, 2012 to the end of 2015 for renovations.
The new museum is designed by the world-known architect Arata Isozaki. With “Great Prosperity of Dongting Lake” as the inspiration of design, the general layout is symmetrical, dignified and united with three halls, integrating Hunan culture, Chinese traditional culture and modern culture into one.
After the reconstruction and expansion, the museum will cover an area of over 70,000 square meters and the number of visitors will arrive to 2.5 million to 3 million annually. It will become an important window for showing Hunan history and culture, and a new cultural landmark of Changsha City.
