Xixi National Wetland Park in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province was added to the nation's 5A-Level scenic spot list last week.
5A is the highest rating of China's tourist destinations, an evaluation made by the China National Tourism Administration as based on services, popularity and the quality of cultural or natural heritage.
Within five kilometers of West Lake, the Xixi Park is a large natural wetland situated inside the densely populated city. It is nicknamed "kidney of Hangzhou" for its pristine air and extensive green vegetation. The wetland reduces the temperature of its surrounding 15-square-kilometer premises by more than a degree, a considerable contribution to the city's eco environment.
During the 2012 Spring Festival season, a series of celebrations will be held in the Xixi Wetland Park to attract visitors including a lantern fair, an opera performance and a night market.
