The First Dongjiang Lake Peach Blossom Festival was held in Bailang Township, Zixing City, Hunan Province on March 17, 2013. Over 100 domestic and overseas beauties performed on peach blossom tales, a well-received feast for more than 10,000 tourists from all over the country.
Bailang Township is located in the national 4A-level Dongjiang Lake Scenic Area. It is famous for being the hometown of Bai Wei, a renowned Chinese writer. Its water area covers 120,000 mu (8,000 hectares), occupying half of Dongjiang Lake. There is also a peach forest with a covered area of over 2,000 mu (133.33 hectares). In spring, when the beautiful flowers are in full bloom, tourists, mainly from Changsha, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao stream into the scenic spot, with a daily average of 2,000 visitors.
Since last year in order to expand and develop tourism industry, Zixing City has exerted special efforts to build itself into the most charming water city in the country and transform Dongjiang Lake into a world-famous scenic area. In 2012, the city received five million tourists, 30 % more than that of last year and realized total tourism revenue of three billion Yuan, an increase of 30% over the previous year.
