On December 11th, China Eastern Airlines officially launched its new air route between Xi’an, the ancient capital in China and Madrid, the capital of Spain. This flight is the only direct flight connecting the northwest region of China and Madrid.
The air route will be operated in Airbus A330-200 aircraft on every Tuesday and Saturday. The new connection means China Eastern Airlines now has four direct flights every week between China and Madrid. As one the three biggest airlines in China and the top 10 in the world, China Eastern Airlines has opened a direct flight from Madrid to Shanghai on every Thursday and Sunday since 2016 and carried around 180,000 people between the two cities.
Xi’an is the eastern end of the famous Silk Road. More than 3,000 years of history including over 1,100 years as the capital city in ancient dynasties, have endowed the city with an amazing historical heritage. Xi’an now is also an important economic, cultural, industrial and educational center of the central-northwest region, providing visitors with modern and convenient facilities.
