The Changsha Fire Palace Temple Fair kicked off on January 21, marked by dragon and lion dances, and blessing of God of Wealth. Traditional opera performances, folk custom shows, and delicious food provided here would make a Changsha-style Spring Festival.
Traditional opera, magic show, and featured kuaiban (a form of oral storytelling performance), won rounds of applause. A costumed “God of Wealth” presented red envelops, and cosplayers of Peking Opera and Flower Drum Opera interacted with audiences. Changsha snacks, represented by Tang You Baba (glutinous rice dumpling fried in sweet oil), and stinky tofu, were shown online through live streaming. A 10-meter-tall rooster sculpture at Pozi Street attracted crowds of tourists to take photos.
The Temple Fair also set a branch at the ancient stage in Taiping Street, displaying kinds of cultural and creative products, and a broadcasting room for citizens to express blessing and wishes to their friends and families.
A series of themed activities will be staged at the Temple Fair, from the Xiaonian Festival on January 21, to Lantern Festival on February 11, including Folk-custom temple fair at Fire Palace on January 28; Hunanoperas and traditional handicrafts exhibition on February 6; and Lantern Festival cruise on February 11.
